Not all waxing are the same. The technique of the therapists and the type of wax and the ingredients used in the wax makes a massive difference to effectiveness and more importantly, the comfort level to the client. There are two methods of waxing - use of hot wax or strip wax.
Hot Wax
At Invigor8 Skin and Body, our client's health and comfort are very important so we only use fresh "hot wax" (also known as hard wax) on sensitive areas such as face, underarms and bikini. The wax is heated up in an electric wax pot to a temperature that is hot enough to melt the wax but not burn the skin. The wax then hardens when it cools, thus allowing the easy removal by a therapist without the aid of cloths. This waxing method is very beneficial to people who have sensitive skin.
Invigor8 Skin and Body use only fresh, quality Australian-made waxes with Titanium Dioxide to protect the skin from damage and pain.
To maintain high level of hygeine, we use gloves when waxing and disposable-single use spatulas to spread the wax. This means there is no "double dipping" that can spread bacteria and deseases. Absolutely no wax recycling at Invigor8 Skin and Body.
It may sound disgusting, but some salons do recycle wax or use metal spatulas that they re-use to save on costs. Some also use strip wax for Bikini and Brazilian waxing as it is more economical than using hot wax in these sensitive areas. Don't just compare prices when looking at getting waxing cheaper prices does not mean value for money.

Strip Wax
Waxing is accomplished by spreading a wax combination thinly over the skin. A cloth or paper strip is then pressed on the top and ripped off with a quick movement against the direction of hair growth. This removes the wax along with the hair.

How long before the hair grows back?
The rate of regrowth depends on the individual's hair cyle and the thoroughness of the therapist. Waxing removes the hair from the root. New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for two to eight weeks depending on the individual's hair cyle. With repeated waxing in an area, hairs get progressively weaker. If waxing is done regularly for several years, permanent hair reduction may be achieved.
How to get good results from for waxing?
Preparing the area to be waxed is important to get the best results.
- Exfoliate the morning before or the morning of the treatment,
- Do not use moisturiser on areas to be waxed.
The pain involved with this procedure can be slight or severe and can continue from several seconds to minutes. Some people experience less pain during subsequent treatments. It can be helpful for a bikini wax recipient to take a mild anti-inflammatory medication (like ibuprofen) an hour or so before waxing to reduce potential pain from the waxing.
The more you relax, and the more professional the therapist, the less likely it is to hurt.
Waxed areas will generally have a red rash for a few hours afterwards. Get waxes for special occasions a couple of days in advance to allow the irritation and sensitivity to disappear completely in good time.
What are the other options to waxing?
Some people prefer a more lasting hair removal solution. Depending on how long you desire to be hair free and your budget, Invigor8 Skin and Body Centre offers IPL permanent hair removal or Alkaline Wash treatments that have more lasting results.
- Heat treatments such as sunbed and even spas, baths and showers, as well as applications of body products such as fake tan are not advised on the area for 24 hours after your wax.
- If possible, avoid streneous exercise that causes excessive sweating for at least 24hrs after waxing. If this is not possible, shower immediately after exercise. Sweat is bacterium and can cause infection in the hair follicles.
- Avoid chlorine pools and beach activities.
- Take extra care in the sun. The old skin protecting the new skin cells has been removed, sun exposure may cause pigmentation and the new skin burns very easy.
- Do not exfoliate for about a week after waxing as the old skin has already been removed from the procedure. After 7 days exfoliate with a glove/exfoliant. Ask your Invigor8 therapist what is best for you.
- Use after wax lotion like Ingrown Zone available from Invigor8 clinics. It is antibacterial and will help with any infection of ingrown hairs.
- For underarm waxing, do not use antiperspirant deodorant for at least 24 hours after waxing as it blocks up the pores to the hair creating ingrowns.
