Waxing for the First Time
Waxing is a relatively cheap, quick and effective hair removal method for all over the body and face. The popular areas being legs, bikini area, underarms, arms, lips and eyebrows for women; backs, chests and pubic area for men.
Advice for your first time waxing
If you have never been waxed before, or has not been waxed for a long time, advise your therapist so that additional time can be allowed to give you advice and prepare the area adequately.
Get waxes for special occasions a couple of days in advance to allow the irritation and sensitivity to disappear completely in good time. Sometimes bumps or in-grown hair can result use after wax products like Ingrown Zone available at Invigor8 Skin Care Clinics to inhibit hair growth and prevent ingrown hair. Waxed areas will generally have a red rash for a few hours afterwards.
The bikini area is one of the most sensitive areas in the body, and special attention must be paid to avoid irritation. Ideally, bikini waxing should be done every four (4) weeks due to the different stages of hair growth. Regular waxing over time makes the hair weaker and grows less dense.
The pain involved with waxing can be slight or severe and can continue for several seconds to minutes. Some people experience less pain during subsequent waxing treatments. It can be helpful for a bikini wax recipient to take a mild anti-inflammatory medication (like ibuprofen) an hour or so before waxing if they experiencel pain from waxing. The more you relax and the more professional the therapist is, the less likely it is to hurt.
IPL permanent hair removal is recommended if waxing is becoming annoying or unbearable to maintain a smooth, clean appearance. Alkaline wash hair removal is another option, particularly for light coloured hair where IPL is not effective.
The rate of regrowth depends on the individual's genetic composition and hormone levels; and the therapist's technique and thoroughness.
Be aware that hair tends to naturally start reappearing after a few days. With repeated waxing in an area, hairs get progressively weaker and in some rare cases stop growing altogether.
How to select a good place to get regular waxing?
Insist on using 'hot' or 'hard' wax for sensitive areas like bikini, lips, eyebrows, underarms; also insist on single use spatulas for hygeine and to avoid possibility of any cross contamination. For larger, flatter skin areas like legs, arms, back and chest, 'strip' wax is used for speed. Isolated hairs after waxing can be removed by using good quality tweezers.
Compare on quality of service, technique of the therapist and the quality of the waxes used rather than price alone when looking for a place to get your regular waxing done. The waxes used at Invigor8 are always fresh and specifically blended with Titanium Dioxide for better client comfort and protection from tearing the top layer of the skin. Be aware that other salons use 'strip' wax on sensitive areas like bikini and face, or worse, recycle wax to cut costs. At Invigor8, we do not compromise on client comfort or safety.
