Understanding what IPL Permanent Hair Removal is and selecting the right IPL treatment provider is the most important step in removing unwanted hair forever.

Developments in technology has made intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments more avaiable and accessible.  Home kits are now available and some doctors believe that IPL should be delivered by medical professionals. So how do you know where to get the safest and best permanent hair removal treatments.  Invigor8 Anti-Aging Clinic  provides the answers to the following questions to make you more informed when making IPL hair removal inquiries (click on the questions for the answer):

What are the IPL hair removal treatments like?

At Invigor8 Anti-Aging Clinic, it is painless, quick and easy! After your initial preparation, our Therapist will move a wand-like handpiece over your skin. The handpiece emits a light that disables the hair follicles. Most people perceive the light as a gentle “snapping” sensation.  The Client Contact Cooling handpiece will reduce discomfort dramatically compared to other IPL machines.  Once this is completed, the Therapist will wipe away any loose hair from your skin, and you’re ready to go.

Treatment frequency ranges depending on individuals' hair follicle density and depth.

What can I expect after the treatments?

1. Most people experience some mild sunburn-like sensation in the treated area shortly after treatment. This does not interfere with normal activities and usually subsides within a day. In some cases, the redness may last longer, but will still be mild and temporary.

2. Apply ice or cold packs to the treatment area for 10-15 minutes every hour for the next four hours, as needed. An oral, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, such as acetaminophen may be taken to reduce discomfort. Use according to manufacturer’s recommendations.

3. In some cases, prolonged redness or blistering may occur. An antibiotic ointment may be applied to the affected areas twice a day until healed.

4. Bathe or shower as usual. Treated areas may be temperature-sensitive. Cool showers or baths will offer relief. Avoid aggressive scrubbing and use of exfoliants, scrub brushes and loofa sponges until the treatment area has returned to its pre-treatment condition.

5. Until redness has completely resolved, avoid all of the following: applying cosmetics to treated areas; swimming, especially in pools with chemicals, such as chlorine; hot tubs and spas; activities that cause excessive perspiration; sun exposure to treated areas. Apply an SPF-30 or greater sunscreen.

6. Appearance of hair growth or stubble will continue for 7-30 days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin.

7. In patients with facial hirsutism who have been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and presenting ovarian hyperandrogenism, there is a risk of paradoxical effect resulting from the activation of dormant hair follicles in untreated areas close to hirsute-treated areas.

Invigor8 Paramedical Skin Practitioners will explain in detail after treatment care and other less likely side effects to you during the initial consultation.

What is the difference between IPL and laser treatment?

Pulses of concentrated light are directed onto the skin and absorbed by the hair follicles. Pulsed light systems are similar to lasers, but with a larger, smooth beam, and a long pulse for safer, faster and more  comfortable treatments than laser.

What is the difference between IPL and SPL treatment?

SPL or Square Pulse Light  is the same technology as IPL or Intense Pulse Light but delivers a square-shaped pulse instead.  The power of the machine is the more important factors as this dictates how effective the hair removal treatments.  The clooling system is also important particularly for getting several treatments in sensitive areas like face and bikini.

What should I look for when selecting the right machine after IPL treatments?

Not all IPL machines are alike.  There are many machines coming out of China that are very reasonably price and are attractive for beaty salons, medi spas and day spas that are more focused on cost savings than quality to purchase.  These are questions that you need to ask to ensure that your IPL treatment is the most comfortable and effective around.

Q: Does your IPL have Client Contact Cooling?

Invigor8 A: YES! Advanced Contact Cooling technology sends a chilled fluid supply through the handpiece down to the sapphire tip, which is cooled to as low as 15˚C. The handpiece tip is continually cooled while in contact with the skin throughout treatment, providing maximum safety and comfort during the treatment.  When the handpiece is in contact with the skin, it will feel very cool as it extracts the treatment heat through the sapphire lens. This is essential, not only for comfortable treatments, but also to protect the skin from burns. You will never go back to painful lasers, cold air blowers, ice, gel or basic IPL’s again once you have experience this type of patient cooling.

Q: Does your IPL have Wide Smooth Pulse Technology?

Invigor8 A: YES! Palomar systems deliver pulsed light over one smooth pulse duration, rather than the multiple power spikes (which may damage skin) that other technologies use. This patented Smooth Pulse technology keeps the epidermal temperature lower, for far more comfortable treatments. It also allows for the safe delivery of greater amounts of energy, which is more effectively absorbed by the target chromophore, producing greater efficacy. Wide smooth pulse technology allows higher treatment power, delivered safely and comfortably. Single smooth pulse widths (up to 500 milliseconds) protects the skin and allow more effective treatments (particularly on darker skin types). Higher power input means less hair regrowth, less time required for each treatment and cost you a lot less with better results.

Q: Does your IPL have a Large Coverage?

Invigor8 A: YES! Large treatment heads (provided they can deliver reasonable power above 20 joules/sqcm) will perform the treatment effectively and efficiently (7.4sq cm heads, as opposed to a 2sq cm head, take a quarter of the time to treat a mans back). 1 sq cm lasers have even less coverage. So why spend longer undergoing treatments when that time could be spent on other opportunities.
