What is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?

Intense Pulsed Light or IPL for short is a revolutionary non-invasive treatment that utilises wavelengths of light to treat specific skin concerns and unwanted facial and body hair.  IPL treatments are safe and very effective in reducing or removing unwanted hair and skin pigments.

Our IPL machine contains and extremely bright light source of flash lamp.  The lamp is directed to the melanin or dark pigmentation in the skin or hair, and/or the rich red colour of blood vessels.  The machine sends a high energy wave of light to the targeted area, leaving the surrounding skin unaffected and unharmed.

Why come to Invigor8 Medi-Spa for IPL Treatments?

Not all IPL treatment machines and providers are the same.  In line with our Salon's mission of "providing or customers with the most effective and innovative treatment with care", here are five reasons why you must get your IPL treatment at Invigor8 Medi-Spa.

  1. Our IPL machine uses Wide Smooth Pulse Technology.   Palomar systems deliver pulsed light over one smooth pulse duration, rather than the multiple power spikes (which may damage skin) that other technologies use. This patented Smooth Pulse technology keeps the epidermal temperature lower, for far more comfortable treatments. It also allows for the safe delivery of greater amounts of energy, which is more effectively absorbed by the target chromophore, producing greater efficacy. Wide smooth pulse technology allows higher treatment power, delivered safely and comfortably. Single smooth pulse width (up to 500 milliseconds) protects the skin and allows more effective treatments (particularly on darker skin types). Higher power input means less hair regrowth, less time required for each treatment and cost you a lot less with better results.  Combine this with our Introductory IPL offer and you will not find a better value IPL treatment anywhere in Perth.

  2. Our IPL machine has an optional large treatment heads.  The large treatment heads can deliver power above 20 joules per square centimeter.  The 7.4 sq cm heads (as opposed to regular 2 sq cm heads) can perform treatments for large skin surfaces like chest, back and legs quicker with results that is more even and smoother.  Larger treatment heads make overlapping on the treated area easier redsulting in far less patchy results for permanent hair removal compared to smaller IPL hehand piece.

  3. Our IPL Machine has Client Contact Cooling.  Advanced Contact Cooling technology sends a chilled fluid supply through the hand piece down to the sapphire tip, which is cooled to as low as 5˚C. The handpiece tip is continually cooled while in contact with the skin throughout the treatment, providing maximum safety and comfort during the treatment.  When the handpiece is in contact with the skin, it will feel very cool as it extracts the treatment heat through the sapphire lens. This is essential, not only for comfortable treatments, but also to protect the skin from burns. You will never go back to painful lasers, cold air blowers, ice, gel or basic IPL’s again once you have experience client contact cooling with your IPL treatments.

  4. Our IPL Therapists are very experienced and qualified.  Safety and care is paramount to our Therapists.  This is why we provide a free 30 minute comprehensive consultation with patch test to assess your skin's suitability for IPL before any treatment begins.  It is important that the treatment is personalized to the uniqueness of individuals.  The treatment process and expected outcomes are fully explained to assist you in making an informed decision before undergoing IPL treatment program.

  5. All IPL treatments we perform are guaranteed to produce results.  Most places advertise "permanent hair reduction" or "progressive hair reduction".  Do not waste your money there and be disappointed.  We are so confident with our skin analysis, IPL treatment and equipment that we can guarantee permanent hair removal at the end of your course of treatments.

  6. All treatments we perform, including IPL, are comprehensively insured.  We have satisfied our professional insurer that our Therapists are qualified and take the outmost care in delivering treatments to our clients.

Contact us to book your appointment or if you have further queries about IPL treatments. We guarantee you will be delighted with the results.

We look forward to seeing you regularly.

What body areas can I get IPL treatments?

All skin surface, other than around the eyes can be treated with IPL.  The common areas are underarms, legs, back, chest, bikini line, arms and lips.  IPL is effective and safe in treating skin blemishes.

Exclusion Factors to IPL Treatments

  1. Unprotected sun exposure or use of tanning beds or creams in the areas to be treated in the last four weeks. Protected sun exposure means the wearing of protective clothing or the daily use of a SPF 30+ or greater sunscreen. Discontinue sun tanning and the use of tanning beds and self tanning creams 4 weeks before and throughout the treatment course and 4-6 weeks after treatment. This will reduce the chance of skin colour changes and development of new lesions.

  2. Pregnancythere is no evidence at this time of foetal harm from a light-based system, but the results of the treatment may be erratic/unreliable due to fluctuations in hormonal levels and physiological conditions.

  3. Menstrual dysfunction Consumers with menstrual dysfunction or known to have hyperandrogenism and should consult an endocrinologist for evaluation and possible medical treatment.

  4. Use of mechanical epilation of less than 6 weeks prior to treatment for consumers seeking hair removal. This includes plucking, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis or sugaring. Refrain from tweezing, waxing, sugaring, electrolysis or other epilation methods for at least 6 weeks prior to treatment and for the duration of treatments. It is best to shave or trim excess hair during the course of treatment.

  5. Allergies to medications, latex, foods or other substances.

  6. History of seizures Flashing lights may trigger a seizure.

  7. Medications both prescription and non-prescription, including herbal and natural remedies as some of those may cause photosensitivity. Consumer should not be taking Accutane, anti-coagulants or St John’s wort. For patients taking a photosensitizing medication a 24-hour test spots will be performed.

  8. History of keloid & hypertrophic scar formation Although scarring is rare, picking or pulling off scabs or crusting can result in scarring. For this reason it is recommended to exclude from the treatment consumers with known tendency to form keloid or hypertrophic scars.

  9. Active infections/ImmunosuppressionActive infections and immunosuppression compromise the healing ability of the body. Customers with these conditions will be rescheduled to when infection is cleared.

  10. Open lesions treatments will only be done on intact, healthy skin.

  11. Herpes I or II within the treatment area. Consumer must consult their Primary Care Provider for medical evaluation and possible prophylaxis prior to treatment.

  12. Tretinoin (Retin–A, Renova) although tretinoin use in the area to be treated is not absolutely contraindicated, it is however, known to make skin more sensitive and prone to exfoliation. Consumer is advised to discontinue use of tretinoin for the course of treatment.

  13. Oral isotretinoin/Accutane within the preceding 6 months. Accutane changes the underlying structure of the skin, which may cause unreliable results. It might also increase skin sensitivity to light.
